In a quest to uncover the root causes of Berlin’s housing crisis, film director Rory Ryder stumbles upon a forgotten building, the Silverfish, that sparks his curiosity. Delving deeper into its history, he contemplates its potential as a ground-breaking solution for contemporary and emergency housing. The film explores the historical significance of the Silverfish building and its alignment with housing trends like tiny houses, mobile homes, and nomadic living. Shedding light on housing challenges not unlike those in Vermont, the film draws on lessons from the past, merging these ideas with modern technology and offering possibility for dignity and a sense of community for millions displaced by natural disasters and warfare each year.
The screening on the 18th kicks off the twelfth season of the Architecture & Design Film Series. They describe the Series as follows -
The essence of design lies in its profound ability to affect how we think about and experience the world.
The Architecture & Design Film Series engages, provokes and inspires the community by exploring the impact and importance of design and beauty in our lives.
We invite you to watch these films in hopes that these creative offerings will broaden awareness, foster connections, spark new ideas, and ultimately build momentum towards positive action.
